Health Environmentalist I

The KY River District Health Department is accepting applications for a Health Environmentalist I.  The position will serve the Knott and Letcher County Health Departments. The is a non-merit, contract position.

 

General Duties include:  Performs regular inspections of tourist accommodations, schools, swimming pools, to ensure compliance with state and local regulations pertaining to environmental health, this may include taking product samples and forwarding for testing. Secures water samples, investigates nuisance complaints and other duties related to environmental health; Inspects food establishments for compliance with state regulations pertaining to sanitation; request assistance from supervisors in situations beyond his/her scope of training and experience. Interprets reports generated by the Environmental Health Management Information System (EHMIS)/Graphical Users Interface (GUI) system. Analyzes and interprets data regarding test results, inspections results, etc. and presents results to appropriate types of audiences.

 

Minimum Education, Training or Experience:  Bachelors degree from a college or university with a minor or twenty-four (24) semester hours in environmental health, biological or physical science or registration as a Kentucky Environmental Specialist/Sanitarian under KRS 223.

 

Special Requirements:  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Note: an individual upon employment must become registered under the provisions of KRS 223 to remain a permanent employee per Administrative Regulations 902 KAR 8:080.

 

Starting Salary:  Range of $20.30 – $25.24 depending upon education and experience. Includes full state benefit package including Kentucky Employee Health Plan and participation in the Kentucky Employee Retirement System.

Full Time Clinic Nurse

The KY River District Health Department is accepting applications for two vacancies for a Full Time Clinic Nurse.  One position will serve the Lee and Owsley County Health Departments.  The other position will serve the Knott and Letcher County Health Departments. The vacancies are non-merit, contract positions.

 

General Duties include:  This position serves under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor.  Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to; Provide nursing care and assessments to clients consistent with the Public Health Practice Reference, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. Document services provided to the client according to standards of the Core Clinical Service Guide (CCSG) and Administrative Reference (AR).  Maintain confidentiality and privacy according to guidelines.  Develop and conduct educational counseling and teaching activities for individual clients and families.  Utilize basic awareness of community resources and complete required trainings.  Services provided will include family planning, immunizations, WIC, harm reduction, etc.

 

Minimum Education, Training or Experience:  ADN

 

Special Requirements:  Must have RN license in Kentucky or compact state or provisional license in Kentucky, meeting all requirements of KRS 314.041.

 

Starting Salary:  Range of $22.81 – $28.36 depending upon education and experience. Includes full state benefit package including Kentucky Employee Health Plan and participation in the Kentucky Employee Retirement System.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

The KY River District Health Department is accepting applications for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.  The position will serve the Lee, Owsley, and Wolfe County Health Departments. The is a non-merit, contract position.

 

Minimum Education, Training or Experience: 
A WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a contracted part-time, variable hour paraprofessional (support person) who provides basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

 

PROVIDER CREDENTIALS:

The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor must meet all the following listed qualifications:

  • Has been or currently is a WIC participant.
  • Has successfully breastfed an infant for 6 months or longer and is an advocate for breastfeeding.
  • Has the ability to work independently at home; Has basic computer skills in the use of email and common Word documents.
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors and other health department staff.
  • Has reliable transportation; and Is readily accessible by agency provided cell phone.

 

SCOPE of WORK:

The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will:

  • Complete all modules of the USDA Breastfeeding Curriculum Training.
  • The Peer Counselor Supervisor will document and maintain on file the successful completion of the modules.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with pregnant and breastfeeding women as observed by the Peer Counselor Supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Supervisor, local health department staff, clients, and other peer counselors, as appropriate.
  • Receive an assigned caseload of pregnant and breastfeeding WIC mothers and maintains caseload number appropriate for population served.
  • Contact the mothers per established protocol found in the WIC and Nutrition Manual.
  • Provide counseling by telephone, home visit, clinic visit and/or hospital visit per the Breastfeeding.
  • Provide basic breastfeeding information and support such as; the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, establishing breastfeeding, etc.
  • Assists clients in preventing and handling common breastfeeding problems and concerns.
  • Maintain and protect client confidentiality.
  • Document all contacts made with clients per the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor protocol in the WIC and Nutrition Manual.
  • Operate within the Scope of Practice for a Breastfeeding peer Counselor.

 

Starting Salary:  Negotiable, starting at $13.50 per hour depending upon education and experience.

Full Time Home Health Registered Nurse

The KY River District Health Department is accepting applications for a Full Time Home Health Registered Nurse. Position will be based in the Wolfe County Health Department. The vacancy is a non-merit, contract position.

 

General Duties include:  This position serves under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to; Conducts comprehensive initial nursing assessments, at designated times, to obtain and document pertinent physical and psychological health status and history, determines program eligibility, needed services and appropriate payer source and develops an individualized plan of care; assesses pain management and completes review of medications; assesses need for and use of health care equipment and technology; provides intermittent skilled nursing services; identifies health risks and implements risk reduction strategies for self and others according to agency policy; conducts or participates in team meetings/case conferences to evaluates client’s response to care, need to alter the plan of care, need to add or discontinue a service or need to change payer status; revises plan of care as needed; provides thorough documentation and submits appropriate reports as required.

Starting Salary:  Salary Range of $21.52 to $30.06 depending upon experience. Full state benefit package including Kentucky Employee Health Plan and participation in the Kentucky Employee Retirement System for full time position.
