Dental Health Program
The Kentucky River District Health Department is dedicated to improving oral health in Eastern Kentucky. Given the high rates of untreated tooth decay in the area, our services are crucial.
Services We Provide
- Dental Sealants
- Cleanings
- Fluoride Varnish
- Comprehensive Oral Health Assessments
We offer these services directly in schools to make it easier for students to receive preventive care and address issues before they become serious. After assessing a student’s oral health, our staff can:
- Place protective dental sealants on molars and/or premolars.
- Provide a dental cleaning.
- Apply fluoride varnish to strengthen teeth.
Dental Sealants: The Most Effective Cavity Prevention
Dental sealants are the most effective way to prevent cavities, as 80 percent of decay starts in permanent molars in children. Students may receive a varying combination of the services we offer.
Our Team and Partners
Our oral health team is supported by a statewide school-based oral health program and works in partnership with participating school districts. Currently, we serve schools in Wolfe and Owsley counties.
